Lot#: 213

DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Actual patent model of S.M. Lillie's time lock, nickel-plated base metal case measures approximately 6.5 inch diameter, granted U.S. patent 206887 on August 13, 1878, with U.S. patent tag attached. A very appealing, and presumably unique, item for the time lock collector. Although a patent was granted, this design was not to be a commercial success as John Erroll notes that only one example of Lewis Lillie's Model 2 time lock based on the Lillie patent designs is believed to have been made. Please see our photos for images of U.S. patent 206887 illustrating and describing the present item. From the collection of John Erroll, co-author of American Genius: Nineteenth-Century Bank Locks and Time Locks. A copy of the book will be included with this lot.
CONDITION: Patent model in fine cosmetic condition, exterior shows light wear, some scattered scratches, dings, and finish loss, not inspected as to internal components or functionality.
ESTIMATE: $300 - $600
